Breast Reduction
Posted on: September 7, 2011
Breast Reduction surgery, also referred to as reduction mammaplasty, removes excess breast fat, glandular tissue and skin to achieve a breast size that is proportional to a woman’s body. Breast reduction surgery is also done to alleviate the discomfort associated with overly large breasts. Men with gynecomastia, larger than normal breasts, also receive breast reduction surgery.
During the procedure the surgeon makes incisions in the breast to remove the excess tissue and skin then the skin is closed with stitches. In some cases the nipple and areola need to be moved. A lack of feeling in the nipple may occur since it is removed from the nerves that supply it.
Most women that have breast reduction surgery are satisfied with the results.
